If you are leading worship at St Mark's you may find the following helpful.
You will receive a letter from the stewards about 10 days before you are due to visit us. Please send your order of service to our organist <email@example.com> by Thursday lunchtime, in preparation for Choir Practice that evening, and for printing on the notice sheet.
The following hymn/song books are available:
If you wish to use other musical resources these can usually be accommodated with prior notice. St Mark's has a copyright licence with CCLI. If your chosen resource is not covered by this you may be contacted to discuss possible alternatives.
The choir usually sings an introit to both the morning and evening services, and an anthem during the evening service. The organist will be happy to discuss any particular requests you have.
We have a music group, Lamplighters, which plays at some services. If you would like the group to take part in the service please ask with as much notice as possible.
Sparx members will be present at the start of morning worship, and leave after the first hymn and opening prayers, unless the service includes communion. If you wish you are welcome to give a short address suitable for the children before they leave. For morning services with communion, the young people will only be present for the communion.
Unless you request otherwise, readers will be found from the congregation for bible readings both morning and evening. Please indicate any particular requirements, e.g., a specific bible translation, on your order of service. We have bibles available in our pews for the congregation; the versions we have are the Good News Bible and the New English Bible.
Services are recorded from time to time for distribution to housebound members and adherents. If you would like a particular service recorded for continuing Local Preacher development, or for any other reason, this can usually be accommodated with prior notice. Please indicate if you do not want your service to be recorded.
St Mark's has three Worship Leaders, who can be approached to help lead worship. Please contact <firstname.lastname@example.org> as soon as possible if you would like one of them to be involved in leading your service (subject to their availability).
We have facilities for playing tapes and CDs during the service. A portable data projector and screen is available for evening services only. Unfortunately it is not powerful enough to cope with the light during the morning services. If you want to use this please provide your own laptop. Note that any video or DVD you wish to show must have permission for use in church services—if you aren't sure of this please ask in advance.
When the gifts have been collected they are normally brought forward during the singing of the Doxology (Hymns & Psalms No. 642 v6). There is a brass plate for the preacher to use to receive the offertory bags.
Coffee is served after morning worship, and you are welcome to join us in fellowship in the main hall at the back of the church.
Please contact a church steward <email@example.com> or the organist <firstname.lastname@example.org> (as appropriate) if you would like any more information. We look forward to sharing in worship with you at St Mark’s.
